JVC launches new full HD LCD monitor for digital SLR users

Most of us would purchase a high definition LCD TV for entertainment purposes, checking out the latest Blu-ray releases on them while drooling at the level of detail such sets offer. Well, JVC takes a different route this time round with their new Xiview LT-42WX70 being a 42″ class 120Hz 1080p LCD TV monitor which caters specifically to digital imaging professionals and enthusiasts who do plenty of shooting using high-end digital SLR cameras. The Xiview LT-42WX70 will make room for shutterbugs to see the subtle colors, details and textures of their images faithfully reproduced for the first time on a HD LCD TV right smack in the middle of your living room.

The monitor will come with expanded color space capacity that encompasses 100% of HDTV broadcasting’s (sRGB.904) color space alongside a coverage rate of 96% for Adobe RGB, which is the color space for still photographs taken on high-definition digital SLR cameras. These capabilities will make room for accurate reproduction of both video and still photographs. In addition, the LT-42WX70 will also come with 52 picture-quality adjustment properties for tweaking both still and video images source-by-source according to the exact colors and tones of your preference. Not only that, JVC’s very own GENESSA Picture Engine is able to churn out video images without blur, color bleed or noise for clear images with smooth movement.

The inclusion of 120HzClear Motion Drive III (100Hz for PAL video signals) in the engine also further reduces the amount of blurring, which is a problem that is normally associated with LCD TVs. Sounds like the perfect thing for sports and action movie enthusiasts since their entertainment of choice tend to have plenty of movement that can be smoothened out. With the 3D real time, motion-estimated Hadamard noise reduction being applied, noise will be further eliminated along with blur suppression. If you’re interested, JVC is offering the JVC LT-42WX70 for $2,399.95.

How to make your refrigerator use minimum energy when filled with food?

  • Not once the food gets cold. The cooling wection should be kept full, with enough room for some cool air to circulate for even cooling, and the freezer compartment should be tightly packed, so that the frozen foods can keep one another cold.
  • If there is not enough food to fill the freezer, it is suggested to put more ice trays or some containers of water.
  • Frozen food in a fully packed freezer will survive a power failure for quite a while if the door is kept shut.
  • Some extra water containers in the cooling section will also minimize the amount of in rushing warm air that has to be cooled when the door is opened and shut.
  • There are other ways to keep your refrigerator's condenser from working over time.
  • It is permissible to let hot food cool some what before refrigerating it as long as cooling period is not long enough to permit bacterial growth. Never use warm or hot water to make ice cubes.
  • Cover moist food, so that the refrigerator does not waste energy evaporating the moisture.
  • Check for the recommended temperatures, 37 to 40 degrees fahrenheit in the cooling section and under 5 degree fahrenheit in the freezer compartment.
  • Clean the condenser coils behind the refrigerator the way the manual says, and make sure there is enough room behind and above them for the warm air to escape.
  • Make sure the door seals are tight; Test them to see if they hold on to a dollar bill when you tug it.
  • The most important, keep door opening to a minimum, repace several items at a time rather than making seperate trips.

World's first battery that charges on air.

  • World's first battery fueled by air that could provide storage of energy 10 times as compared to those available today and can be used in electric cars, mobile phones and laptops.
  • The revolutionary "STAIR" (St. Andrews Air) battery charged in a traditional way but as power is used or discharged, an open mesh section of the battery draws in oxygen from the surrounding air. This oxygen reacts with a porous carbon component inside the battery, which creates more energy and helps to continually charge for the cell as it is being discharged.
  • This battery differs from the traditional battery using the chemical component lithium cobalt oxide, in as much as it uses porous carbon and oxygen drawn from the air and the cell is much lighter than current batteries.
  • The cycle of air helps to recharge the battery as it is used. It has a greater storage capacity than other similar sized cells. It can emit power upto 10 times longer. The key is to use oxygen in the air as a reagent rather than carry the necessary chemicals around inside the battery.
  • The battery is much smaller and lighter and hence better for transporting small applications. The size is also crucial for anyone trying to develop electric cars as they want to keep weight down as much as possible.
  • In addition to being light it would be cheap as the porous carbon matrix which holds the Lithium battery ought to be economical.

SONY INTRODUCES THREE MAINSTREAM ALPHA CAMERAS DESIGNED FOR FIRST-TIME DIGITAL SLR BUYERS

Sony is making it easy for first-time digital SLR buyers to step up from point-and-shoot digital still cameras with the introduction today of three new easy-to-use α (alpha) cameras (models DSLR-A380, DSLR-A330 and DSLR-A230), four new lenses, a flash and accessories.

Uniquely Matched to Customers’ Needs
The new cameras are designed to overcome challenges faced by many customers taking their first steps in DSLR photography. Without compromising performance and versatility, the new models are smaller, lighter, easier to use and offer innovative expansion options not found in other systems.
Light and Compact
The 10.2 megapixel α230 camera is the lightest, most compact alpha DSLR camera body ever at 15.9 ounces. The 10.2 megapixel α330 and the 14.2 megapixel α380 cameras are also smaller and lighter than their predecessor models (the DSLR-A300 and DSLR-A350, respectively). These cameras are also more compact and feature an intuitive control layout that allows for easy single-handed operation.

SteadyShot INSIDE™ in-camera image stabilization is built into each camera body, so every α-mount lens benefits from the ability to minimize blur due to camera shake.

Quick AF Live View System
Both the α380 and α330 cameras offer Sony’s Quick Autofocus (AF) Live View technology, so you can frame photos on the camera’s LCD screen as well as in the optical viewfinder. Through the use of a dedicated image sensor, Quick AF Live View maintains the rapid response of a DSLR, while avoiding the focus delay common to other live view systems.

The new cameras feature a 2.7-inch (diagonally) Clear Photo LCD™ screen that is easy to view even in bright sunlight. Additionally, the LCD on the α380 and α330 models can be tilted up or down, making it easy to frame your subject from high or low positions, otherwise difficult to see using an eye-level viewfinder. The range of adjustment has been increased from their predecessors, making it even easier to get shots from difficult angles.

By combining Quick AF Live View and an adjustable LCD, users can frame the scene without holding the camera in front of their face, allowing parents, for example, to maintain eye-contact when photographing their children for more natural expressions.

An HDMI™ terminal gives you the option of connecting your camera to a compatible HDTV and playing back your images in high definition quality (HDMI cable required, sold separately). Additionally, BRAVIA® Sync™ works with compatible Sony® BRAVIA HDTVs to let you control camera playback using the television’s remote (HDMI cable and BRAVIA Sync capable HDTV required, sold separately).

The new cameras include dedicated slots for high-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo™, Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™ and SD/DSHC media (sold separately).

Built-in Help Guide
The α380, α330 and α230 models are Sony’s first DSLR cameras to feature a graphical user interface (GUI) with built-in on-screen Help Guide.

The Help Guide offers clear, concise explanations of various modes and settings, while the Graphic Display helps you understand the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, as well as the effect each has on photographic results.

Systems, Lenses and Flash
Making it easier for first-time DSLR users to get started, the new Sony cameras come in camera-and-lens packages. In addition to the two new standard zoom and telephoto lenses that are offered with the camera bodies, the company introduced new portrait and macro lenses. These purpose-built lenses make it much easier to obtain professional-looking, creative results.

Optimized for use with APS-C sized image sensors, these lenses feature a Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) that enables in-lens auto focus (AF) drive for smooth, quiet operation, and high optical performance in a compact size.

The DT 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 standard zoom lens (model SAL-1855) incorporates aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements to provide an all purpose lens with outstanding image quality. The DT 55-200mm F/4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens (model SAL-55200/2) features an ED glass element and helps bring distant subjects closer, ideal for capturing sports. Both the SAL-1855 and SAL-55200 lenses are available separately, or packaged as kits with the new cameras.

To make the benefits of portrait and macro photography easier and more accessible, Sony is introducing a DT 50mm F/1.8 portrait lens (model SAL-50F18) and DT 30mm F/2.8 (model SAL-30M28) macro lens. The wide aperture SAL-50F18 lens helps users capture beautiful portraits with gently defocused backgrounds while the SAL-30M28 macro lens captures intricate close-ups. Both techniques are difficult to achieve with standard lenses.

To help users take better shots with flash, Sony offers an affordable, compact external flash unit (model HVL-F20AM) that is simple to operate. Unlike a camera’s built-in flash, this external flash provides higher output (Guide Number 20), and enables users to bounce light off the ceiling to eliminate harsh shadows and achieve more even illumination when shooting indoors.

Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders will begin on May 18, 2009 at www.sonystyle.com/retail and at selected retailers nationwide. The cameras and a range of accessories will be available in July at Sony Style® retail stores (www.sonystyle.com/retail), at military base exchanges and at authorized dealers nationwide.

The α380L, α330L and α230L will cost about $850, $650 and $550, respectively. The L series one-lens kit comes with the SAL-1855 standard zoom lens.

The α380Y, α330Y and α230Y will cost about $1050, $850 and $750, respectively. The Y series two-lens kit comes with both the SAL-1855 standard zoom and SAL-55200 telephoto zoom lenses.

  • The SAL-1855 standard zoom lens will cost about $200.
  • The SAL-55200 telephoto zoom lens will cost about $230.
  • The SAL-50F18 portrait lens will cost about $150.

Big News on E-Readers: A Larger Kindle Screen

  • Gadget-makers usually like to boast that the latest version of their device is smaller than its predecessor.
  • Yesterday, Amazon made waves by doing the opposite, showing off a larger version of its Kindle e-reader in the hopes of luring college students and newspaper readers.

Newspapers have been an "absolute bestseller" on previous models, said Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos. His company is hoping that a larger 9.7-inch screen will make the Kindle that much more appealing to that audience.

"People love waking up in the morning to find that their New York Times, their Washington Post, their Wall Street Journal have been 'automagically' delivered overnight," Bezos said at a news conference in New York. "They like the fact that when they travel, their subscription follows them around."

Like its predecessor, the new Kindle DX will be able to wirelessly download books or periodicals from Amazon's online store and display its contents in shades of gray, not color. But the new generation of the wireless book reader will have a larger screen and cost quite a bit more, $489 compared to the current $360.

Amazon's ambitions for the new device are to shake up a few industries at once, as Apple's iPod did. Newspaper companies such as The Post, a partner with Amazon, are hoping to attract new, paying subscribers. Universities, meanwhile, are looking for ways to cut their paper expenses and free their students from having to lug around backpacks filled with heavy, expensive textbooks.

  • "Our hope is to understand how people experience our brand on this relatively new type of device and how we might take advantage of the increased adoption of e-readers," he said. Many of the program's details are still in the works.

The Times and the Boston Globe, which was threatened with the prospect of bankruptcy this week, have also partnered with Amazon to offer a similar type of trial program.

Newspaper industry analyst John Morton said that such experiments may be "an encouraging development" for a struggling industry, but that the device is too expensive. "Even half that price would be a big barrier" to mainstream consumers, he said.

Tech industry analysts said that the new reader could be an early example of a wave of similar gadgets to come.

"This is an important experimental milestone for Amazon and the publishing and newspaper industry," said Tim Bajarin, a tech analyst with Creative Strategies. Still, he said, "it's way too early to tell how successful this will be."

Five universities will soon be trying out the device on their campuses in limited test runs. This fall, the University of Virginia will make the Kindle DX available to MBA students at its Darden School of Business, said Ken White, vice president of communication and marketing at the school.

Students typically have to use stacks of books and paper in their studies, he said, "and if we could eliminate all that paper, we would be extremely happy."

Princeton University's chief information officer, Serge Goldstein, said that as more academic material is available online, more students are hitting the "print" button because they still prefer reading long texts on paper, rather than on a computer screen. The school's paper costs totaled $5 million last year.

Princeton is still deciding which students and classes will be the beneficiaries of its upcoming Kindle test program, but it might not announce that information ahead of time. The school's administrators don't want to risk nudging students into taking a class just because they want the gadget.

"We want to reach students interested in the course, not students interested in the Kindle," said Goldstein.

Other universities taking part in the program are Arizona State, Case Western Reserve and Pace, where yesterday's news conference took place.

LG KP500!!!!!!!!!!

The LG Cookie KP500 is selling for around Rs.12,500 with a one-year warranty. The phone is a decent buy considering its main feature i.e. is a full-touch handset. If you look at it as a phone or a convergence device the Cookie isn't so sweet. It has a slow interface and lacks performance of most features that a phone at its price point would provide. I liked the phone for what it tries to achieve but won t recommend it for a demanding user.
If you really want a touch phone then I suggest you invest another 2-3K and pick the HTC Touch Viva or still better without extending your budget too far you can pick the Sony Ericsson G700. These phones have better features to offer other than the whole touch touch hype that you are after. Thanks to the iphone

DELL XPS M1330 reivew!!!!!!!!!1

The first thought that comes to mind on unboxing the XPS M1330 is a big WOW. Unlike the boxy models that characterized Dell's designs so far, the M1330 adopts a more streamlined and slim approach. This is really visible in the lid area of the laptop, which is a good 30 percent slimmer than in previous models. Also, unlike in earlier models, the LCD panel is on a gentle slope that flows into the keyboard area.

The finish of the laptop is another area that Dell has drastically improved upon. The M1330 has a feather-like soft plain silver finish for the area around the LCD panel and a soft silver metallic finish for the keyboard area. The lid area can be configured with a variety of colors on a soft matte finish; our test machine was a beautiful crimson red.

The hinges also have received a makeover. They are rounded, slim, and have no extra flex thanks to the sturdy material used. When you combine the weight loss, the improved lid design, and the new 'slope design', what you get is a one elegant-looking machine.

The appeal of the laptop does not end there. The XPS M1330 has been redesigned to be even more functional than previous iterations. First off, the keyboard is a full-featured one and offers excellent tactile feedback. The touchpad is a bit smaller than usual but is well-designed and, when combined with the adequately large mouse buttons, offers very good levels of working comfort.

The LCD panel needs a special mention. It has a backlit LED panel with a native resolution of 1280 x 800 and offers some of the best contrast/brightness and black levels that I've seen on any laptop. The screen really jumps out at you with a vibrancy that is difficult to describe. Though the extra brightness may irritate some, once you get used to it it’s difficult to go back to a conventional screen.

In terms of its connectivity the M1330 is a bit of an odd duck. It offers a variety of external display connectivity options including HDMI, a Firewire port, and a multi-card reader. However, it skimps on the crucial USB ports and offers just two of them. This is a real letdown. Add to Mixx!
