Apple stays ahead with iPhone 3.0 OS
- Apple iPhone 3.0 OS has ultimately arrived with much more features as compared to its predecessors. This 3.0 OS can even make even the iPhones which were even 2 years old into a brand new one.
- Once the new Apple 3.o OS is loaded into the iPhone it becomes faster in snapping photos and sending messages. But beware that any os slows down with the passage of tume.
- The Apple iPhone 3.0 OS has added feature of search capabilities. Apple added Spotlight a system wide search bar that you can access by swiping to the left of the primary spring board screen or by pressing the home button twice slowly. A search bar appears on the top of the blank black screen and you can type in a word to perform the search operation.
- Apple also has added mail search application which helps you to search through e-mails which are still in the server and not downloaded by the iPhone.
- Apple 3.0 OS has made the functions of cut/ copy/ paste extremely user friendly. To apply this function you have to simply double tap on a screen where you want to copy some text. A bubble appears asking you whether you want to cut or copy. A box encapitulates the area you tapped. Drag the corners of the box to cover the area you wish to copy. To paste you launch the app at the app at the area you want to paste. Double tap again and hit paste.
- Apple 3.0 OS has added a landscape mode to its iPhone e-mail, SMS and Notes applications.
- The iPhone 3.0 also comes with a voice memo audio recorder. You can record and play the songs in MPEG-4 and alka . mp4a formats.
- In the SMS app you now have the option to delete or forward selected text messages from contacts.
- Further you need not wait for the finish option while sending e-mails. The e-mail app takes care of it by sending the mails in the order requested.

Samsung Launches Brand New Handset
Pre Communicasia Samsung surprised us attendees with the launch of a brand new handset called the Jet. Of course there’s plenty more to come from the company but toady was the day of the Jet. A global campaign has been apparently underway for quite a while now as part of their UnPacked initiative and the handset has been kept under wraps, until its unveiling today.
The new handset, a touchscreen of course, revealed the latest upgrade in Samsung’s mobile portfolio as it features an 800MhZ application processor running on Samsung’s TouchWiz UI version 2.0. A global winner, Simon Kramer was the very first person on the planet to be gifted the Jet handset and we were the lucky few who got to see it before it gets unveiled in London and Dubai in a little while. The phone was launched with no expense spared among some brilliant visual effects showcasing the handset’s various facets and features.
So without further ado, here are the features that the Samsung Jet will embody -
a 3.1 WVGA, AMOLED touchscreen display with 16 million colors
3D like UI with multiple desktops with Motion UI, Media Gate 3D and Multi-tasking manager
A 5 megapixel AF camera with Dual LEDs for a flash that features Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection and Geotagging
Samsung’s DNSe Sound engine and SRS WOW Sound Effects for audio with a 3.5mm earphone socket
DivX and XviD video playback
GPS with A-GPS
Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, Micro USB,
3G with HSDPA, EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi
The Dolphin Browser it’s loaded with will come with full flash support and come with an ad blocker as well. It’ll also feature one finger zoom, which I’m a little skeptical about. In a touch screen handset you usually use one finger to scroll up or down a page so I’m not sure how the zoom function will work unless there’s a scroll bar. More on this when I get to test the handset soon. The handset will also be able to support Microsoft Exchange Active Sync even though it’s not a Smartphone.
The handset will be available in an 8GB model with support for microSD cards up to 16GB. It’s priced at approximately Rs. 24,150.

User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Works GREAT with Macintosh!!!
I have a MACINTOSH LAPTOP with both imovieHD and imovie09. AS SOON AS THE CAMERA is connected imovie launches and a screen appears with ALL your movies shown (1st frame of movie is shown so you know which is which). You click a box to select the movies you want imported and the computer does the REST!
PHOTOS are imported the same way: iphoto immediately launches when USB cable (supplied with camera) is connected between camera and MACINTOSH. You click all the pics you want imported and the computer does the rest!!
The other mac guy doing the reviews is apparently an idiot.
5 Stars Good price, good quality, sound
I just got this camera yesterday at best buy. It was on sale online but not in the store. they matched the price online and I got it for 539.99
Then they marked it down to 519.99 because It was a open box. So I got lucky. I originally bought the sony handycam for 299.99 but realized I should have got the HD version. If you have HD computers and Tvs whats the point of watching home movied in anything but hd? the other footage from the original was grainy. since getting the HD the videos look great! Very happy. Beautiful camera and lightweight. for best video take in bright light. you can really see each hair on a persons head. The only problem I have is when I watch the videos on my computer it lags? I dont know why. It looks like still shots kinda like frame by frame?
If anyone can help me figure that out how to watch the videos without a delay I would be so happy
No cons so far.
5 Stars AWSOME DEAL !! GOT IT FOR $399.99 AT SONY STORE.
THIS CAMCORDER IS AWSOME . FULL HD 1080 , 10X OPTICAL ZOOM , 8GB BUILT IN MEMORY W/ EXPANSION SLOT. AWSOME SOFTWARE AND THE BEST OF ALL , I GOT IT AT THE SONY STORE FOR $399.99 THANKS TO A 20% OFF COUPON SONY STORE ADVERTISED FROM MAY 15- MAY 17. I WANTED A CAMCORDER THAT HAD THE BUILT IN LIGHT AND A LITTLE BIT MORE OPTICAL ZOOM BUT I HAD TO PAY $200. EVEN AT $499.99 THIS IS A GREAT BUY.
5 Stars Perfect 1080p but no light on the camera.
Its 99% perfect, but I would like a light. Price match amazon at bestbuy and save a hundred bucks. Great camera, No regrets.
4 Stars great image, but…..
I got this camera in april, and set out to take video and pictures right away to test quality. It is great, but you will only be able to see the full glory in your HD tv. If you try to copy to a disc, you will have to lower to SD (standard definition) until they come up with a copier for full HD. Until then I better keep the cards to view on tv. I have a dvd recorder I use to copy and edit videos I take on trips, (my old Sony tapes camera) and noticed that if I use HQ, comes pretty close to what I get from this camera. I must say that this camera is so easy to use and light. So, do not empty the cards, better carry a few ones, now that they are getting cheaper. I will wait for Blue Ray dvd recorder.

Motion Controls Move Games Into the Future
Here, see for yourselves. Check out the preview for the upcoming sci-fi flick “Gamer,” and you’ll see a future in which video game enthusiasts use their bodies to control their games.
In these movie-imagined days to come, a gamer moves his arms and, voila, his in-game avatar moves its arms in response. He moves his legs, and the avatar moves its legs too. Talk about precision controls! Of course, in this future gamers manipulate real people rather than digital people, forcing these poor meat puppets to partake in a first-person shooting game gone awry.
Nevertheless, it’s an interesting prediction of what’s to come, and after last week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, it seems that this fictional future may not be all that fictional after all. I know I wasn’t the only person who took one look at Microsoft’s demonstration of Project Natal and thought of not only the movie “Gamer” but thought “Holy cow, the future is nigh!” (And yes, I actually said “holy cow.”)
At their E3 demo last week, Microsoft presented a not-so-distant future in which Xbox 360 players will use their bodies — and not handheld controllers — to play their video games. Move your arms and your avatar moves its arms. Move your legs and your avatar moves its legs. Just like in the picture shows!
For the record, Project Natal does not appear to employ the use of human meat puppets. But this is Microsoft so, well, you never know now do you? (Did I mention that MSNBC is a joint Microsoft – NBC Universal venture?)
Certainly one thing that’s been made crystal clear not only by last week’s E3 extravaganza but by this week’s launch of a new Nintendo gadget: The future of gaming is in motion.
In addition to Project Natal, Sony last week unveiled its own as-yet-to-be-given-a-catchy-name motion-control device. While Project Natal uses a special camera, depth sensor and microphone to read players movements and recognize their voices, Sony showed off a controller that looked like a bubble-topped magic wand — a magic wand that works with the PlayStation Eye camera to let gamers interact with the virtual world before them in a highly precise manner. Pick up a sword and swing it around. Aim your bow and fire arrows at oncoming enemies.
Glitzy demos aside, Microsoft and Sony are really just trying to catch up to the reigning king of motion controls — Nintendo. And this week, Nintendo is taking its own ground-breaking motion controls even one step further with the launch of Wii MotionPlus.
A revolution in gaming
Say what you will about the Wii's "waggle" controls, but Nintendo's motion-sensing Remote and Nunchuk — launched with the Wii back in 2006 — have proven to be a major milestone in video game history.
Sure, many core gamers have derided the Wii’s controls for their lack of precision and gimmicky implementation, but analyst Michael Cai, vice president of video game research at Interpret LLC., says the Wii and its controls have been so important to gaming that Nintendo may as well have called the machine by its original code name: “Revolution.”
No, Nintendo didn’t invent motion controls, but it was the first to get them (mostly) right. And the fact-of-the-matter is, the Wii has not only changed how we play video games, but it has changed who plays video games. That is, people who would have never otherwise thought of themselves as “gamers” are now happily playing and buying games. And it’s the Wii’s motion controls that were the key.
“The only real progress the industry had made in the last few years before the Wii was to add more buttons to the controller, which posed a significant barrier for novice gamers or for anybody who couldn’t master 30-plus combinations of buttons to play a shooter or a fighting game,” Cai says.
Motion controls — which allow for a more natural and real-world way of interacting with video games — just make sense to people. You swing the controller like you would your arm when playing a tennis game. You turn your controller side to side like you would a steering wheel when playing a driving game. What’s not to get?
Peter Moore, president of EA Sports, says the importance of motion controls comes down to this: “It has democratized gaming. Anybody can be a gamer regardless of whether they can push buttons or pull triggers. Literally, if you can move your arms and legs, you’re a gamer.”
After last week’s announcements, it’s clear that Sony and Microsoft understand the importance of this newfound democracy. With Wiis now residing in more than 50 million homes worldwide, it’s kind of hard not to. So what does Nintendo think about their competition jumping on the motion control bandwagon?

Five to launch HD TV on Freeview
Five has been granted a licence to launch high-definition TV services via Freeview from 2010, Ofcom announced today.
Viewers will be able to enjoy a range of key Five programmes in HD, such as The Gadget Show, UEFA Europa League and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation via Freeview.
Five's application initially involves simulcasting its main programmes at peak time on HD. But in the future, Five predicts sharing its HD channel with another broadcaster during daytime hours and supplying other services, such as video-on-demand in HD overnight.
There are also plans for blockbuster movie premieres to become available in HD via Five from late 2010.
The channel faced competition from Channel 4 and Welsh-language broadcaster S4C for the HD slot on Freeview, but Ofcom decided that Five fulfilled the various criteria more than its rival applicants.
The allocation is also subject to the channel resolving certain key criteria, which includes ensuring that viewers are suitably informed about the new services, before 31 December 2009.
While this decision means Five will join the other public service broadcasters; the BBC, the Channel 3 licensees (ITV, stv and UTV), Channel 4 and S4C, its HD services will only start to become available after the digital switchover happens in each region.
Ofcom expects that the Granada TV region will be the first to benefit following its switchover in late 2009, while the rest of the UK will follow accordingly, with nationwide coverage set to be complete by 2012.

iPhone 3.0 and possible new Apple handsets at WWDC
Apple is expected to begin a summer smartphone battle by announcing details of updated software for the iPhone and new versions of the handset.
Thousands of customers and developers are gathering for the annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, which the company has used in the past couple of years to launch updates to the touchscreen mobile phone.
Apple is thought likely to announce at least one new handset with up to 32 gigabytes of memory, video recording, a better camera, a compass, and improved battery life. Rumours on technology blogs suggest that the new version may be called the iPhone Video.
It is also rumoured that Apple is considering releasing a stripped-down, cheaper version of the iPhone with as little as 4GB of memory and fewer features which would sell for as little as $99 (£62) in the US. Any new versions of the hardware are likely to go on sale in July.
Apple has sold more than 21 million iPhones in more than 80 countries since it was launched in 2007. It had about 10 per cent share of the worldwide smartphone market in the first quarter of this year.
Apple has said that it will give more details at the WWDC of the new iPhone 3.0 operating system, which will include the ability to cut and paste text and an improved search function. The new operating system will be released later in the summer and will be downloadable for current iPhone owners.
Apple will also showcase its new Snow Leopard operating system for Mac computers at the WWDC. Snow Leopard will come out later this year as Microsoft prepares to release its new version of the Windows operating system, used on 90 per cent of the world’s personal computers. Windows 7 will go on sale on October 22, Microsoft said this week.
“Apple is arguably still the leader without new iPhones, but having new iPhone hardware models would definitely help improve its competitiveness,”
The chief challenger to the IPhone in the US this summer will be the Palm Pre smartphone, which launches in the US tomorrow, and is expected to come to the UK later this year.
The Pre, which has received glowing reviews this week, has a touchscreen and a keyboard. Several leading figures at Palm formerly worked at Apple. Palm’s chairman, Jon Rubenstein, led the iPod development team until 2006.
Nokia, which has about 41 per cent of the world’s smartphone market according to Gartner, will begin shipping the much-anticipated N97 handset later this month to more than 70 countries.
The 3.5in touchscreen and qwerty keyboard phone will be available from mid-June in the UK.
Other smartphone models to be launched this summer include a new version of Research in Motion’s BlackBerry Storm touchscreen handset, as well as products from Samsung, Sony and HTC.

E3 2009: Sony launches new PSP Go handheld games console
Kaz Hirai, Sony’s president, jokingly called the launch of the PSP Go the “worst kept secret of E3”, after news of the announcement leaked online days ahead of the video games expo in Los Angeles. He made the announcement as Sony unveiled its forthcoming line-up of video games at E3 2009.
The device, which is half the size and wait of the original PSP console, features 16GB of flash memory, allowing users to store thousands of songs, photos and games on their console. It also has a slide-out control pad, and integrated Bluetooth, as well as a memory card slot to expand its storage limit.
They will also be able to download games and films from Sony’s PlayStation Store using the PSP Go’s built-in Wi-Fi capabilities.
Sony confirmed that the PSP Go would not have a slot for its proprietary UMD game disks, meaning users won’t be able to play old PSP games on it. However, Sony said that the PSP Go would be offered in addition to the existing PSP console, the slim, light PSP 3000, which is still compatible with UMD disks.
The PSP Go, which goes on sale on October 1, will cost around $250 (£150).
Sony hopes the new-look, ultra-portable device will appeal to casual gamers as well as Sony’s traditional fan base. Other handheld consoles, such as the Nintendo DS, have proved very popular with women and older gamers.
The PSP Go also pits Sony directly against Apple’s iPod touch device, which can play music and video, as well as surf the internet, and is building a reputation as a foremost mobile gaming platform, with a number of large publishers, including Electronic Arts, developing titles specifically for Apple’s gadget.
