Now,books take on 3D avatar
- Scientists in South Korea have developed a 3D technology in books in which characters leap out of page.
- The 3D entertainment got boosted by a few films such as "Avatar" and " Alice in Wonderland".
- Several companies have offered 3D televisions. 3D video game consoles are soon to be launched. Researchers have used 3D technology to animate some children's books like Korean folk tales.
- The pictures in the books have cues that trigger the 3D animation for readers wearing computer screen goggles. When the readers turn and tilt the books , the pictures in the book move accordingly in 3D animation.
- According to the researchers, this technology could be used for any type of book, displaying images over smart phones or in museums.

To turn on the lights, just think.
- We'd always heard a lot about the power of thoughts, but Toronto based interaxion has actually managed to put it to good use.
- The company has come out with a technology that lets users control a series of lights literally by thinking about them.
- It is show casing the technology in style at the on going winter olympics in Vancouver.
- Visitors to the Ontario House will be able to contuol lights at three land marks - Toronto CN Tower, The Niagra Falls and Ottawa's Parliament building by using their brains.
- Letting them do this magic will be a headset that measures their brain waves and sends a signal over the internet to one of the three Venues.

Turn any surface into a touch screen!
- These are the days of touch screens. But to get these facilities one need to get the entire gadget what so ever it be like an i Phone, Black Berry storm or an HTC HD2.
- But just think how wonderful it would be it you can transform any solid surface into a touch screen by pacing just a thin sheet of film over it? Well. This is just what Portugal based Displex has come out with.
- Just place the sheet on or under a glass or plastic or wooden sheet and press to it. That is all to be done by you transform it into a touch screen!
- Creating the magic is an assortment of nanowires embedded in the film that recognizes your fingers and transmits information to a micro controller and software suite that, in turn, shows what you have entered on your computer.

GPS wrist watch
If your kids have a tendency to wonder you probably wanna checkout Lok8u. But what about the senile grandparents in your life? They can end up half way across the state before you or them realize they’re lost.
This wrist watch like cell phone uses Aerotel’s GeoSKeeper GPS service to keep tabs on its wearers location at all times. If they wonder out of a set zone an SMS is sent to the monitoring party notifying them of the breach – sounds a bit like house arrest. And unlike Lok8u’s GPS monitoring wrist watch, this one can speed dial up to 3 preprogrammed parties and receive calls. It’s currently available in the EU with no word on a US launch.
GeoSKeeper™ is a light-weight wrist-worn GPS-based personal telecare safety device. It offers users and their families a new level of safety and peace of mind using its embedded GSM/GPRS module, built-in speakerphone and active GPS receiver. With its geofencing feature, the device provides real time information over the user’s accurate location. When the wearer wanders outside a specified zone (e.g. neighborhood or school area), the system sends a short message (SMS) alert to a monitoring center and to a relative or caregiver.

Mahru-Z, the mechanical maid.
- My house maid telephoned me to inform that she would not be attending to my household work unless I give her a pay rise and a 5 day week. We were really worried and were in search of a solution and there came the Mahru-Z, the mechanical maid to assist us.
- The walking robot Mahru-Z, the mechanical maid assists me in cleaning the house, dumping the clothes in the washing machine and even heats the food in the microwave.
- The Mahru-Z can rotate its head, move its legs and hands and has an additional finger ie six fingers and a 3 dimensional vision to quickly recognise the house chores and perform them just like a human being and frankly to say even better.
- I really have no words to appreciate the strength of my mechanical maid Mahru-Z with the visual ability to recogmise the tasks and execute them promptly. She never grumbles or ask for salary increase or weekly holidays.
- I am really thankful to the South Korean scientists of The Institute of Science and Technology for developing such a useful alternative to the demanding and lazy house maids.

Can your key board recognise you?
- If I say that my keyboard can recogmise me on installing a software may sound to be something imaginary and just impossible. British scientists have developed a software when downloaded into your computer can recogmise the user and will make passwords and other security systems obsolete.
- The software developed by Mike Dowman of University of Abertay, UK, uses 36 characters of log in details in 42.84 attempts.
- On testing, the software was able to detect 97.2% of the users correctly. With the rhythm and speed of typing the software could also detect the stress level of the user based on the time and the level at which the keys are handled.
- The software also enables the designing of a security system to raise an alarm if a person is being forced to log in into a system.

Digital Future.
- It is easy to carry a DVD o a friend's place and watch it on his TV. But things are not that easy when it comes to video downloads. Certain movie files will not work on Sony HDTV. Further movies downloaded from iTunes will work only on devices with Apple software.
- Hollywood and consumer electronics makers are concerned about this issue and fear that consumers wil not prefer to buy TV shows and video movies until they can carry it along with them and watch them at any plac where ever they want. Hence, Hollywood movie makers and high tech engineers are working on the Digital Future.
- Hollywood Studios have been trying to address this problem through an organisation called Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem or DECE.. The group is trying out to create a common digital standard that would allow consumers to buy or rent a digital video once and then play it on any device.
- Under the proposed system the proof of buying a digital video woild be stored in a online locker and the consumers will be able to play the videos on any DECE compatible devices. Consumers can buy Blu rays and store copies of digital discs of the video movies or games which can be accessed by them from any of their devices including mobile phones and PCs.

World's first 3D Bioprinter.
- The scientists have developed the world's first 3D bioprinter that will help bioengineers and doctors to generate human organs.
- The 3D bioprinter has been developed by Invertech and the first one has been delivered to the San Diego based firm Organovo.
- The 3D bioprinter is a breakthrough as it puovides for the first time a flexible technology for organizations working on construction of human tissues and organ replacements. It enables the placement of cells very accurately at the place the bioengineers need to place them.
- The 3D bioprinter can be used to grow tooth using epithelial and stromal tissues.
- The 3D bioprinter helps the scientists to construct a model of the organ they plan tomake by using laser brat print technology.
- With the 3D bioprinter, the construction of human organs cell by cell is no more a scientific fiction.
